Hydrogen Filling Station Utilizing Solar Panels in Japan

Honda Motor Co. has set up a solar hydrogen fuel station at the Saitama Prefectural Office. Saitama has procured its first “FCX Clarity” fuel cell electric vehicle, which its manufacturer claims is the world’s first dedicated platform electric vehicle. Over the next two years the prefecture, Honda and the local government will conduct joint testing of the hydrogen station’s hydrogen production performance with the aim of practical use in the future. The hydrogen gas station utilizes solar panels to break down water molecules by electrolysis, with a daily production capacity of 1.5 kilograms of hydrogen --- sufficient to fuel the FCX Clarity for up to 150 kilometers (approx. 90 miles).
