紹介の挨拶より一歩踏み込んだ英会話表現

自己紹介の後の英会話コミュニケーション

自己紹介を終えたら、会話のトピックを決めましょう。会話を続けるには、その人がどこに住んでいるか、またはその人の専門分野等に対して簡単な質問をすることから始めるのが基本です。ただし府インフォーマルかフォーマルかの区別を意識しましょう。

インフォーマルな（くだけた）状況

“I’ve been looking forward to coming to the party tonight. Do you know many people here?”　“今夜のパーティーに来るのを楽しみにしていました。ここにいる人をたくさん知っていますか？” 

“We just moved here. Are you originally from here?”　“ここに移ってきたばかりです。あなたはこちらのご出身ですか？” 

“What do you do on the weekends around here?”　“ここら辺では週末に何をするのですか？”

“I’m not familiar with the area. Do you live near here?”　“この辺りについて詳しくありません。この近くに住んでいますか？” 

“We really like living here in W city. Have you been here long?”　“W市に住むのがとても気に入っています。ここに長くいらっしゃるのですか？”

“We’re going to the zoo tomorrow. Have you been there?”　“明日、動物園に行きます。（そこへ）行ったことがありますか？”

“We love it here in N town. Do you have any favorite places to visit?”　“ここのN町が大好きです。どこかお気に入りの場所がありますか？”

“This is my first time downtown. Do you know any good restaurants?”　“街の中心に来るのは初めてです。どこかいいレストランを知っていますか？”

“What restaurants do you recommend for families?”　“家族連れにお勧めのレストランはどこですか？”

“I love your house. Have you been here long?”　“あなたの家はとてもすてきですね。長くここに住んでいるのですか？”

フォーマルな状況

“What line of business are you in?” 　“どんなお仕事をされているのですか？”

“How long have you been working for X company?”　“どのくらいの間X会社に勤めているのですか？”

“How did you become interested in the IT field?”　“なぜＩＴ業界に興味を持つようになったのですか？” 

(Looking at the person’s business card) “I don’t know much about the field of ~. What is it that you do?”　（その人の名刺を見ながら）“～の分野については良く知らないのです。何をなさっているのですか？”

“I’ve heard a lot about your company, but don’t know exactly what you do.　“あなたの会社について色々と聞きましたが、あなたが実際何をしているかは分からないのですが。”

“What subject are you focusing on (at school)?”　“（学校で）どの教科に集中していましたか？”

“What is your field of expertise?”　“あなたの専門分野は何ですか？”

“How did you get involved in ~?”　“どうやってあなたは～に関わり始めたのですか？”

“I understand the ~ field is expanding rapidly. Is your company growing now too?”　“～業界が急速に伸びていることは知っています。あなたの会社も成長していますか？”

“Was your company involved in the Business Forum this summer?”　“今年の夏、あなたの会社はビジネスフォーラムに関わりましたか？”

“Do you do business with Y Company too?”　“あなたもY社と取引がありますか？”

“Please describe your company’s main areas of business.”　“あなたの会社の主な業務分野について説明してください。”

“Do you find the business climate in Japan is very different from (their home country).”　“日本におけるビジネス環境はとても（その人の出身国）と違っていますか？
